The straw poll results are in. Looks like I’m going mage. To be fair, the decision wasn’t just made – particularly given that mage has been leading the poll essentially the whole time. It was interesting to see DK come from behind to tie for second place. Now… I was originally just planning on using this poll for main, but, given that I’m probably going to play 3-4 total characters (alt friendliness pending), AND I wanted to play one of each armor type (mostly for those sweet legendary sets), this poll sets up an ideal top 4.
I’ll likely make a post about the others later, but this one will go into, just a little bit, about my specialization and covenant choices. Information about Mage Covenant choices, specs, with some links to pertinent information and videos are below.
Spec:
- Fire – Looking very strong in mythic + and has great burst for PVP.
- Frost – Strong overall in m+ and raid and has good control for PVP.
- Arcane – Well… It’s here. Honestly, I’ve mostly seen Frost for raid and keys and fire for keys.
Winner – Fire, then frost. Mostly what I do is mythic + and PVP, for that, fire seems incredibly strong… frost is still looking good. Arcane seems to be struggling to find it’s place, but if it gets buffed or I learn something new about it, it’s still fun enough to play.
Covenant Choice

The Considerations:
So, for PVE… Night Fae is the clear choice. I do keys more than I raid so even for the one spec that even wants something else isn’t as important for me personally. For PVP, however… Night Fae is good for only one spec, whereas Venthyr is good for all. Overall, PVE is a little more important to me, so Night Fae leads that area.
Venthyr and Kryian have better looking transmogs as a whole, but the colors of Night Fae are good looking, so maybe something to mix and match. And… given that I already have a nice transmog… I don’t know, this doesn’t sway me much either way.
Overall, since PVE has a higher priority, so, Night Fae is likely to be the choice here. If I could find out, however, that Venthyr is less than 1-2% dps difference in keys, then I’ll go with that for the PVP perks and cooler gear. So Night Fae, pending Venthyr news/changes.
I’m looking forwards to the new class. I’ve played mage before, but never mained a caster. One day, if I try really hard… I might remember to put down a portal before I leave groups.
