I’ve been slacking a bit. Both in writing this article and also doing the things that will be contained in it. I intended to write this (and start doing the things) several days ago. I was to be the “last week of prep” and not last weekend, but, here we are. This isn’t necessarily a guide for everyone, because we all have different things left to do, but it could give you some ideas to tackle before launch.
Finish Leveling Demon Hunter: As I discussed a little in my Shadowlands goals In Search of Fortune post, I’m moving servers. I have several important characters moved (ones with rare items, patterns, etc) meanwhile my mage and DH didn’t really even have professions, so they were safe to relevel instead. The DH is 43 now. Not a terrible spot. 7 levels isn’t too bad, but getting to a place that gear won’t slow leveling might be rough in the time available. For you, since we still have the extra 16% experience and with not much else going on in game (if you’ve finished the pre-patch event), now might be the time to get a new character up.
Finish UI updates & Key binds: I’ve been slowly revamping my UI, mostly through tweaks to my elvUI, but I never quite finished. I want to start SL with a little bit better key binds and some cooler UI elements. Once I get this a little more ironed out, I can import it to all of my characters and make their key binds match up better. I’ll try to get a screen shot up when it’s done.
Item Management: Part of my server transferring involves moving all of the items over. I had about 2k items that with a total TSM value of around 4 million gold. I managed this previously using a bank alt and another alt that would use mail as storage. On the new server, I need to get that set up, along with a guild bank for the bank alt for ease of access. Additionally, getting all of the items on the 6 transferred characters over to those alts and storage. Not the most exciting part of gold making, but good to do before there’s big gold to be made in the early expansion.
Log out in the Right Spot: Kinda simple, but for the first couple of characters, especially the very first, being in the right place to start the content is a huge boost of efficiency in leveling. In this case, it’s just making sure I’m out in Orgrimmar because the starting quest line will require you to go to your factions capitol city.
