In Search of Fortune: Quick Tips & Gold Update

WoW Gold - May Graph

Welcome to ‘In Search of Fortune’, a monthly series where I discuss my gold goals and in-game money making strategies.

It’s been a lazy month in the gold making world for me. Missed a few days scanning and posting on the AH, no farming at all, barely any crafting and only a handful of callings completed. I’m just doing my AH flips and the covenant mission table – still up almost 400k in the last month. I did notice a few things I wanted to point out that leads to this pretty casual gold making from someone being very casual with WoW currently

In Search of Fortune: Nothing New

Welcome to ‘In Search of Fortune’, a monthly series where I discuss my gold goals and in-game money making strategies.

So, I may have missed a month in there somewhere. Unfortunately, it’s because it was a slow month… months. Really, isn’t the whole Shadowlands expansion a little slow, though? For me, not terribly slow in terms of gold making, I’m still hitting almost 600k per month in profit, just, well, nothing that different from the last post. There are a couple of things, though, that I wanted to highlight. So continue reading for some interesting examples flips from my mailbox and my TSM breakdown screen for the past 3 months.

In Search of Fortune: Slow and Steady

Welcome to ‘In Search of Fortune’, a monthly series where I discuss my gold goals and in-game money making strategies.

Recently, I’ve been playing quite a bit of other things (check out What I’m Currently Playing) and WoW has been getting less attenion in general, let alone gold making. Despite that, my last month hasn’t been a terrible step in building my fortune – 591,029g profit according to my TSM. I’ll break that down a little and give a couple tips as to how to many simple things can make a decent amount of gold without much extra effort (such as command table missions).

In Search of Fortune: Shadowlands (1.5 million gold in 4 weeks)

Welcome to ‘In Search of Fortune’, a monthly series where I discuss my gold goals and in-game money making strategies.

The beginning of an expansion in World of Warcraft is an important time to set the pace for how that expansion will go for you. You pick a main character to play, the role you’re playing, covenants (this time at least) and, in a way, your play style. Assuming you don’t have unlimited time, opportunity cost says you’re likely going to have to sacrifice one area for another. In my case, in making sure I was leveled and ready for the same content as friends, I had to forgo some of the crazy early money making tactics. The first couple of days see ridiculous prices and I could easily have made double or more what I have so far if I didn’t spend my time leveling and in dungeons. That being said, I’ve still made close to 1.5 million in total profits in under a month

In this post, I’ll break down where my 1.5 million gold profit has come from and what I’ll be doing in the near future to continue it.

In Search of Fortune: Long Boi Victory and Shadowlands Goals

Ignore the big dip

Welcome to ‘In Search of Fortune’, a new monthly series where I discuss my gold goals and in-game money making strategies.

In my first In Search of Fortune post, I declared my goal to get the bruto mount before the prepatch hit. At the time, the true date was unknown and I expected to need to fulfill the 500k quota (I had 4.5m) in about 10 days from the time of the post. The picture above is a big ol’ spoiler regarding that quest. I managed to average ~75k profit per day for that week and finished a couple of days before (what I believed) was the last day. Of course, pre-patch got pushed back weeks more and I’d have had plenty of time to get the 500k. However, I was still pretty happy with getting it done then. For the rest of this post, I’ll go over my gold goals for Shadowlands. This will be something you can come back in a year or two and yell at me if I didn’t get it done. Make sure to subscribe or bookmark or whatever so you can do that then.

In Search of Fortune: Opportunity Cost

Opportunity cost

Welcome to ‘In Search of Fortune’, a new monthly series where I discuss my gold goals and in-game money making strategies.

So many times I’ve been told by friends about how their farm is “free”. I specifically remember early on in the World of Warcraft Cataclysm expansion, I was making money hand over fist by buying all the herbs on the AH and crafting Darkmoon cards… then eventually buying all the cards to make all of the decks. Ignoring the fact that I was making more gold overall, he insisted that his farming ore was at least as good because it didn’t cost him anything. His logic was that I had to spend gold to make my gold, whereas farming is didn’t cost any and therefore was as good.. However, I explained that my gold making took 15 minutes a day and he needed to farm ore a several hours per week to even come close to the amount of gold made.

This was when I first told him about opportunity cost:
