About 4:50PM PST, a host of realms has gone down, yet again. What is with this recent server instability? This has easily reached 10+ occasions in the past two months. Supposedly, one or two times was DDOS attacks by some hacker group, but the rest? Server outages is something I’d expect, maybe, from a F2P kind of game, the kind without regular, massive, monthly income to keep up on server maintenance and whatever it takes to keep everything online. It’s becoming excessive. One two different occasions my PVP guild lost multiple rated battlegrounds as a result of servers dropping. A couple times, immediately upon loading into the RBG the servers crashed for 1+ hours making them effectively forfeit. Another, which I was actually in, we had a massive lead with the game more than half over before we dropped. In all occasions, the loss resulted in a loss of rating. Some people that were most affected put in tickets about this, at least trying to get the loss of rating and statistics reversed, but Blizzard could not be bothered. Honestly, if there are any much more big outages from the game, Blizzard is going to need to start issuing credits. The ToS is pretty limiting on what our actual rights are in the game (we own nothing, etc), but access to the servers is exactly what we pay for. Clean it up, Blizz.
*As an immediate update to my own post before it’s even posted… I’ve noticed that the Realm Status page at battle.net cannot at all be counted on. It took 10 minutes of downtime before it noted the servers were down (so I know it’s not on my end), and then even after it shows them as being online again – it’s still impossible to log in. Ugh.
