Tarkov Talks #1 – The Decline of Gaming

Tarkov talks will (should) be a weekly series that sits somewhere between a podcast and an interview, often featuring TheSix, that happens while we play scavenger runs in Escape from Tarkov. Tarkov isn’t necessarily the subject, just the backdrop.

Episode #1 discusses the decline of gaming quality in recent years, along with some speculations as to why, and in the end how it might not be big evil CEOs causing it all… maybe. Our article Is Pay to Win Bad? ends up a relatively strong focus, as the decline in gaming and company expenses + monetization are likely highly related. Comment your thoughts here or at the video on youtube.

Definitely Not Legit

I’m not going to actually link their address, because I don’t want to give a sleazy, scummy, thief website any additional traffic. This is just a warning for those creating content in the gaming space. This site scrapes gaming posts from others, uses a cheap AI to reword your articles just by replacing words with synonyms and otherwise reposts their stolen content in its entirety. It’s nasty. It’s not okay. It’s illegal. Unfortunately we don’t have the budget to lawyer up, quite yet. This post is just entirely to warm other gaming blogs and websites about this on the off chance that you know how to limit this sort of theft of your content by sleazeballs. So far they’ve stolen content relating to WoW, Warzone, and other general gaming posts.

Share with other gaming sites you know.

Also, for readers of gaming sites, make sure to avoid them. They are literally committing crimes stealing others content. Do not encourage.

Is it Pay to Win?: World of Warcraft

Welcome to ‘Is it Pay to Win’ – a column where we examine a game and decide if that game is has aspects of pay to win and to what extent. Check out Is it Pay to Win?: Defined to see how we break down the components of pay to win (p2w), such as pay for advantage, pay for convenience, and pay for cosmetics.

World of Warcraft is a game that needs no introduction, but, we’re going to do it anyway. World of Warcraft or WoW is one of the worlds preeminent MMORPGs. It has a purchase cost (buy to play), a monthly subscription (pay to play), a token that can be bought with cash and sold for in game currency, and cash shop with game services and cosmetics.

Scoring:

  • Pay for Power: 3/5
  • Pay for Advantage: 5/5
  • Pay for Convenience: 3/5
  • Pay for Cosmetics: 4/5
  • Pay to Win: 3.4/5

Gamer Art: March 2021

Check out March’s Featured Gamer Art, a monthly column of art that I’ve found found in the past few weeks. Art can include paintings, drawings, digital art, physical crafts, cosplay and more.

So… this was kind of a weird month. Typically, as I exist online over the course of the month I save links to these pictures as a preliminary edit of this post. When I’m ready to make the post, I download the images, upload them here, add those links to these pics, etc. Well, this month, almost half of the art I had found has been removed for one reason or another. So this one is a little light, but, I guess we’ll make do. This month’s Gamer Art is mostly World of Warcraft Oriented, but we have some Pokemon art and a Resident Evil Cosplay to mix things up.

Gamer Art: February 2021

Check out February’s Featured Gamer Art, a monthly column of art that I’ve found found in the past few weeks. Art can include paintings, drawings, digital art, physical crafts, cosplay and more.

This month I had enough cool cosplay I found that I was tempted to make a separate section for that alone, I didn’t, but feedback on that idea would be welcome. Also, most websites that I see featuring art and cosplay tend to have a bunch of bricks of text about each, typically I don’t care about what the author thinks or has to say about the character backgrounds and just want to see the art… but is that what everyone else would like? More to comment on, I’m sure. Finally, check the end of this for a video of a cool tattoo. It’s embedded, but doesn’t fit into my normal formatting. See ya next month.
